So, plan is, two 16 input wall boxes in two different rooms (one either side of the live room) i only have and need 16 input recording but may need any number of these in either room at any given time or a combination of both.

So the plan is, solder both 'channel 1's' from each room to a single XLR, essentially both rooms will be connected. I can't see why it won't work, only issue is interference, but i don't THINK that'll be a problem, what are your thoughts?

the problem is when you try use phantom power. . . Getting a patch bay is pretty much essential.

you don't need xlr patch bays. Just any balanced patch bay will do.

Shame i can't get the BMC at work.

I have a spare ballanced patchbay knocking about, but i've ordered the XLR pannels now. I did think a balanced patchbay would do it, but, didn't want to risk it, on the plus side, having the boxed hard wired to the patch bay is a good thing.

I'll let you know how i get on Wink

i used XLR patch bays in the end. wired each room to a seperate patch bay then made a load on xlr patch leads.
works pretty perfectly Smile

you could do it with blanced jacks, but the XLR way worked better for me and makes more sense for what i'm doing.
